New York - from a creative point of view!

When I visited New York with my mom in November, we found the most amazing store!! M&J Trimming at 1008 Sixth Avenue between 37th & 38th street.  It had everything I've ever wanted and needed and lot's of things that I never knew i needed! There was row after row filled with ties, sequins, buttons, feathers, flowers, swarowski crystals and many other wonderfull things. I would definitely recommend anyone with a creative mind to visit this store if they stop by New York!

Look at the white flower with gold glitter below, it look's so much like Carrie's flower! I fell in love with it right away, but I thought it was a little to expensive... 50 Euro.

Travelling

For me this is a wonderful time! Last week I returned from Thailand where I spend 10 days with my boyfriend, his mom and her boyfriend. Tomorrow I'm leaving for New York for a week. My mom is participating in the Marathon on Sunday, and I´m going to cheer for her! I just hope that it will be a good experience despite of "Sandy" the storm. It's my first trip to the states, and I'm so excited!
In Thailand there is one shop that we always visit: Mike and Co. Tailor. They have so much wonderful fabric, not only Thai-silk, and it´s much cheaper than in Denmark. This time I promised my boyfriend that I would make him a suit for New Year's Eve if we could find some fantastic fabric. And of course we could! He bought 4 meters of dark blue wool and cashmere from Roberto Cavalli  for about 900 DKK (120 Euro).
So when I return from NY I'm going to be busy making the finest suit, I hope!
When I took this picture I got to think, where do all of you store your sewing stuff? I think that it takes a lot of space, and in no time you have hundreds of different threads, markers, needles and so on. That's why I'm so happy for my sewing table. It's handmade by my boyfriend's grandma's sister's husband many many years ago, and I got it about six month ago. I love the look of the fifties that it has, and it can accommodate so much. See for yourself:

Well, that's all from me now, more to come when I return from NY :o)

Not just clothes

I think it's about time to show you that I make other things than just clothes.
One of my other big passions is furniture. I love old furniture, and I don't think that they are comparable to modern ones. My heart bleeds when people just throw the old wonders of crafts away.
My boyfriend and I enjoy to spend time renovating and modernizing things together, and below I want to show you some of our projects.

A few months ago we found this wonderful chair left on our loft. It's made in the late 1920s. It had no cushions so I had these one cut out in foam, and then I covered them with petrol blue furniture fabric, and pulled buttons through to make the look I wanted. Now I think it's my favorite furniture in our apartment!

In the past autumn we got an old glass cabinet. It belonged to my Grandpa and had been in my father's childhood home until his big sister left home, and then she got the cabinet. Many years later her and her husband wanted to throw it out, but luckily my Grandpa said no! He got the cabinet back and used it in his garden house. One day he showed it to me and asked if I wanted it. It needed a loving hand indeed, so off course I said yes!
My boyfriend and I used so much time scratching old paint and shelf paper of with a fan heater, and then it needed basecoat, finishing paint and new porcelain grips. But it was all worth it!

The last thing I want to show you is a small footstool which I bought in an antique shop for only 50 DKK (6,70 Euro). It was covered with the most awful sheep-look alike fabric, so we took that off and covered it  with a fabric intended for deckchairs.

Fall in Denmark

Outside my window all the trees has the most amazing orange colors! Fall has really set its mark on the nature (as you can see on my pictures below, all taken in my neighborhood in Copenhagen), and I think the weather screams for coziness with home baked buns and hot chocolate!

What you also can do in this weather is off course to spend a lot of time in front of the sewing machine, and let yourself be inspired of the colors outside your window.
The jacked and dress below could have been inspired by that with the orange and dark blue colors, but actually I made the dress about half a year ago for my friend for her birthday (as you may remember I wrote about then? Otherwise you can scroll down!). The dress is made in 100% orange cotton, with 100 % orange acetate lining. I have made the upper part as a corsage with plastic stiffeners, and I have chosen plastic so you can wash the dress in a washing machine.
I made the jacket for one of my neighbors a few months ago. He had two weddings to go to, but he didn't feel comfortable in a normal suit. He would like to wear jeans and a jacket that could match these. Therefore I made this jacket in rough denim blue 100% wool with stitches and details in orange that could match the stitches on jeans.
I hope You´ll feel inspired to make something yourself or to just enjoy the colors outside your window!
Today I think that I will light up the fire in my stove and watch a bunch of Sex and The City, and hopefully I will be inspired for my next project AGAIN ;o)

For a rainy day!

My mother in law had for a long time said that she would love to have something which I had made, so we agreed that I should make her a raincoat for her birthday. It was more difficult than I had imagined I will say!
When you make a raincoat, you have to iron a special kind of seam tape (which have some kind of glue on the back side), so that the seams get waterproof as well. It took really long time, and I was pretty dull, so my mother in law got her raincoat over a month after her birthday... Wops! But she loved it, and I am really satisfied with the result too!
Now you can see it for yourself:

The Needle has a point

If you like embroideries you should check out one of my earlier classmates' work: The Needle has a point. Her name is Tine Wessel, and she is really good! She makes modern embroideries like you haven't seen it before! Check it out, and be inspired!

Way too long ago!

Hmm, it's been a while, I know. My excuse is not good enough, but I haven't been making so much lately, because the course I'm taking, takes a lot of my time. But it's over in about a month!
Besides school I've only been sewing lots of pillow- and mattress covers for friends, family and so on. It seems like people want's new things for their home when the sun stars shining, and so will I...

Actually I've started a new project, but it's just something that I'm working on besides everything else, so it will probably take a couple of years to finish! So what is this thing I'm working on?
You can see it on the picture below. I like to make patchwork sometimes, it's nice to do in front of the TV, or when I'm restless. I've started on my second blanket, and I have to make 63 of the stars, as the one in the first picture, in different colors, like on the second picture. Perhaps it will inspire some of you out there to start a new project?

New dress on it´s way!

I´ve started at a new course with Business Economy, Sales & Service and IT, so that I will be more attractive when I apply for jobs, because there are not lots of them available! So right now it takes a lot of my time, and so does my assignment with the suits, for the company NUNC. Therefore I don´t have a lot of time to work on my own projects, but when I have time I´m working on a Maxi Dress (the sketch below). I will make it in the fabric that I designed at the Computer Design course that I participated in a few weeks ago. It's 100% silk with small birds on it, as you can see below...
I think it will be fantastic when it´s done and I want to finish it before April 22. where I´m going on vacation to Rome for five days!!
Hope you like it, even though it´s still only a sketch.

Plans for Saturday?

On this Saturday afternoon I will show you a dress wich I´ve made as a school project a few years ago. I wish I had plans for tonight where I could dress up like on the picture, or just a little...
Instead I have to work on an assaignment including a suit, but more about that another time (when I´ve finshed it)!

Orange Eyecandy

My latest project is the dress below. It´s for one of my friends, and I promised to have it ready for tomorrow when it´s her birthday. It´s an orange fifties dress, with a corsage upper part and a skirt with lots of width. The fabric is from Prada and it´s 100% cotton. The lining is acetate.
I finished the dress yesterday, but I don´t have a picture of it yet. Instead I made this cutout with the real dress in about 1:10. The fabric is the one I´ve used, but the waist is a little too high on this sketch.

Beneath you can see how the pattern looks (it´s about 1:10 and it´s only the front).

Springtime and Confirmation

Today is the first day of spring, and outside the sun is shining!
Lots of young girls (and boys) are these days looking forward to their Confirmation, wondering how the day will be, and not at least what to wear! In the occasion of that I will show you a dress I made last year, for my boyfriend’s cousin. I hope it will inspire some, and remember you are always more than welcome to contact me, if you want me to make a dress or something else.
The dress is made in a cream-colored crispy silk, with an upper part in cream-colored satin with hand-stitched beads and sequins. The lining is silk, and is used to make a scarf as well.

A night out?

Friday night must be the right time to show you one more of the dresses I have made!
I made this one for myself last spring. The construction is inspired by japanese "Pattern Magic".
Sadly I don´t remember what kind of fabric it is, but I now that it´s mixed. If I should make it again, then I would use another material, something thinner. But I love the color!

Tote Bag

Just remembered that I promised to show you one of the Tote Bags that I've made... This one is made in a rough canvas with stars and straps in crocodile leather. (I ones bought a bag of leftover crocodile leather in  lots of different colors, and finally I have found something that I can use it for!) The bag is made with black lining inside. Enjoy!

Reveal of...

Finally I can show you the black Gala dress which I have designed, constructed and sewn. It's made in 100% silk both inside and out. It has a very simple cut with a waterfall on the back, and a little extra width from a small wedge center back. I hope you like it!

I can also reveal the present that I made last week... It's a tie made in the most amazing fabric, 100 % wool with a shiny surface. I think it looks so nice! I gave it to my boyfriend’s big brother for his 28th birthday. I think he liked it (and I sure hope, the fabric was not cheap...)! What do you think about it?
